JAMMU, May 10: Former Sadr-e-Riasat and veteran Congress leader, Dr Karan Singh (Ex-MP), has urged upon the State Governor, Satya Pal Malik to under take urgent restoration and repair work on Jammu Kala Kendra complex to make it operational once again as a show case for the multi-faceted Dogra culture.
Taking strong note of the issue after it was highlighted in `Daily Excelsior’ recently projecting pitiable condition and total neglect of the Jammu Kala Kendra by the State authorities, Dr Karan Singh flashed a letter to the Governor expressing his anguish over the issue.
In his letter, Dr Singh mentioned that he was writing to Governor’s predecessors regarding the pitiable state of Kala Kendra, whose impressive new building was constructed in 2004 just near Tawi bridge. It was envisaged as a vibrant centre for the art and culture of Jammu region and was to include a museum, art galleries and spaces for cultural events. But it is most unfortunate that over the last decades, instead of using it for the purpose for which it was constructed, it has been allowed to fall in to neglect and diffuse.
” It has been learnt that there was some inter-departmental struggle between Tourism and Culture regarding this building. Whatever the reason, it is most unfortunate that such a beautiful new building has been allowed to deteriorate,” Dr Singh said.
He urged upon the Governor to take some urgent steps for the remedial measures, give clear responsibility to single department and undertake restoration and repair work so that it becomes operative once again as show case for the Dogra culture.
