KALAM Club organizes programme on relevance of Sharda script

JAMMU, Feb 8: To celebrate Sharda Diwas (Gauri-Tritiya) Kashmiri Art Literature and Music Club( KALAM Club) today organised an interactive session on the relevance and significance of Sharada script at K L Saigal Hall here.
Three experts Prof. M.H.Zafar, H.K. Siddha and Dr Sushma Devi (of the Department of Sanskrit,University of Jammu) explained the significance of knowing Sharda Lipi (script)) so as to be able to read the manuscripts left behind by earlier generation of Kashmiri scholars.
A host of scholars attended the session. Others who threw light on the relevance of Sharada Lipi include Prof. R. L. Shant, Prof. P.N. Trisal, Dr.Ahnishekhar, Ramesh Hangloo, Abdal Mahjoor and Dr.Upinder Ambardar.
Kalam Club president, Brij Nath Betab expressing his views made it clear that though Sharada can not be used as a script for Kashmiri now but it is important to know the script so as to be able to read , decipher and make available to present and next generations the valuable knowledge treasure that is preserved in Sharda manuscripts. The expert speakers were honoured by presenting a shawl and some books. Bindraban Sher a social activist presented set of Kalhan’s Raj Tarangni, Neelmat Puran and complete Suriya Ank to the scholars on the occasion. The programme was conducted by Er. Vinod Kumar.
