Kalaban villagers deny gang-rape incident

JAMMU, Apr 12: Some elderly villagers from Kalaban area of tehsil Mendhar in district Poonch today came out in support of alleged `rapists’ and local police, claiming that no gang-rape of a middle aged widow took place in the area and the woman was telling lies after being instigated by some people for personal rivalry.
Talking to media-persons at Press Club here today, these villagers including Sardar Mohd Shafiq Khan, Ch Mohd Muzaffar Hussain, Noor Hussain Awan, Shakeel Ahmed, Ch Mohd Sher and others circulating a signed statement here alleged that some people of the same village including against whom about 15 criminal cases were pending, instigated the woman and falsely implicated the three persons of the village in alleged rape case. While shielding the alleged rapists, these villagers alleged that the purpose is to blackmail these youth for money. They alleged that there was old enmity between the two families and they have tried to settle the score.
These villagers claimed that woman was telling lies and she was mentally unsound. No rape took place and the police has done very good job in handling the case. They also produced the long list of 15 FIR numbers registered against these above mentioned people instigating the lady, before the media-persons at the conference. They alleged that these people had been booked by local police for allegedly preparing fake documents, fake stamps besides other anti-social activities.
