JAMMU, Oct 10: Jammu University Teachers’ Association (JUTA) has decided to suspend the protest which had been started with the unfortunate death of Dr Chandra Shekhar, after getting written assurances from the University Administration on its demands.
The decision to suspend the protest was taken in General Body Meeting of the JUTA held today. It may be recalled that the teachers of Jammu University observed the unprecedented 18 days pen-down strike where teaching and research activities were completely suspended.
Later, in the Executive Council meeting held on 27th September 2022, JUTA had decided to change the mode of protest and also review the efficacy of this mode of protest after ten days and if by any means the house will feel that the administration has not taken corrective measures then the teachers will be forced to change the mode of agitation which would be aggressive.
It was decided that the teachers will go to the classes by wearing black badges and will observe total non-cooperation with the university administration with regard to NAAC accreditation. It was also decided that no official communication from the office of the Registrar will be honoured and responded till the case of appointment of Dr Chandra Shekhar’s wife on compassionate ground is forwarded to the office of Lieutenant Governor by the administration and the Registrar is removed from the official position.
After the university gave a letter addressed to the president JUTA, that the case of companionate appointment of the wife of late Chandra Shekhar, has already been recommended and forwarded to the Chancellor and also the letter has been sent to the office of Financial Advisor for fixing date and time of the interviews for the higher administrative posts including the Registrar, the Association decided to suspend the protest.
