JAMMU, Apr 15: On the request of J&K High Court Bar Association Jammu (JKHCBAJ) and prompt indulgence by Justice Tashi Rabstan, a pivotal meeting here discussed the pressing issue of targeting of the lawyers by an impersonator masquerading as Superintendent of District Jail Jammu to solicit funds under false pretences of inmates’ medical emergencies.
A statement said that the meeting was attended by Sunil Gupta, DIG Jammu-Samba-Kathua (JSK) Range; SP Cyber Security Cell, Kameshwar Puri, and Superintendents of Amphalla and Central Kot Bhalwal jails.
The statement said that the impersonator has so far targeted prominent legal figures such as Advocate Rameshwar Singh Jamwal, Radha Sharma and others.
It further said that the officers attending the meeting were urged to initiate immediate measures to combat these deceitful cyber schemes.
Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the JKHCBAJ proposed an enlightening outreach initiative, inviting cyber experts to educate members on navigating such perilous encounters.
Expressing gratitude to Justice Tashi Rabstan for catalyzing the dialogue, the Bar Association underscored the imperative nature of swift action to safeguard advocates’ personal and professional integrity.
In a show of solidarity, the attending officers pledged thorough investigations and expedient resolutions while pledging to furnish authentic jail authority contacts to verify incoming calls.
President Vikram Sharma, Senior Advocate, alongside members Parvesh Singh Salaria, General Secretary, and Utkarsh Pathania, Treasurer, voiced the concerns of the legal fraternity, steering the discourse toward actionable solutions during this pivotal engagement.
