Justice Rabstan suggests one roof recreational centre for elderly people

Leh, June 15: District Legal Services Authority in collaboration with Help Age India, Art & Cultural Academy Leh and Bar Association Leh organised “World Elder Abuse Awareness Day” as a part of weeklong awareness camp on “Ageing with Dignity” at Leh today.
The programme commenced with a walkathon from Maney Tselding Leh Gate to main bazaar, Leh. Justice Tashi Rabstan, from J&K High Court was the chief guest and Saugat Biswas, Div Com, Ladakh Division was the guest of honour on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Justice Rabstan said that the purpose of organizing this programme is to inculcate a sense of worth for the older people in our society and reciprocate them the love, affection and kindness they have bestowed on us. He said that Indian constitution has placed number of safety and security rights for older people and to ensure their rights he asked District Administration, Leh to open a recreation centre for senior citizens in Leh.
Justice Rabstan suggested for a one roof place with the provision of health facility, library, legal service booth, recreational games and a cafeteria. He said that this place should serve as the best place for them to have social interaction, caring and sharing with people alike. He said that State Legal Services Authority will provide assistance for this project. He made a special appeal to the younger generation to express love and respect to the elderly people by fulfilling their requirements timely.
Div Com said that not only people who are ageing but everyone barring age, colour, caste, religion and region deserves dignity. He stressed on the need to alter our behavior and strengthen our thoughts and beliefs to grow as a society above me and myself and give dignity to others, more so to the elderly people. He appealed to the youth to plan their future to stand economically independent so they do not look for others support as they grow old and live with dignity.

District and Session Judge Leh, Spalzes Angmo- Secretary DLSA Leh, Padmashree Morup Namgial, Mohd Shafi Lasu-President BAR Association, Dr. Rohit Kumar-Helpage India, Sonam Sopari, Ravia Bano- representative of All Ladakh Women Association and Thinles Norbu- representative All Ladakh Student Association, Leh also spoke on the occasion.
Certificate and mementoes were distributed and a cultural programme by Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Leh was also presented on the occasion.
