JAMMU, Nov 19: Justice Mansoor Ahmed Mir was today transferred from the Jammu and Kashmir High Court to the Himachal Pradesh High Court.
According to the notification issued by Ministry of Law and Justice, the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee in exercise of powers conferred by Clause (1) of Article 222 of the Constitution of India read with Article 222 (1A) of the Constitution (application to Jammu & Kashmir) Order 1954 and after consultation with the Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, N N Vohra and Chief Justice of India, Justice P Sathasivam, has transferred Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir of J&K High Court as a Judge of Himachal Pradesh High Court.
The President has also directed Justice Mir to assume charge of his office in the High Court of Himachal Pradesh on or before December 3, 2013.
According to official sources, a day after the present Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court, Justice Ajay Manikrao Khanwilkar, who has already been transferred to the High Court of Madhya Pradesh as its Chief Justice, is relieved from the present position, the Union Ministry of Law and Justice will issue another notification appointing Justice Mansoor Ahmed Mir as Acting Chief Justice of Himachal High Court.
EXCELSIOR had on November 15 exclusively reported that Justice Mir will shortly be appointed as Acting Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court.
With the transfer of Justice Mansoor Ahmed Mir, the strength of the J&K High Court has come down to 10 including Chief Justice against the sanctioned strength of 14 judges.
Born on April 26, 1955 at village Rajpora in Pulwama district, Justice Mir joined Amar Singh College in 1975 and completed his Bachelors Degree (BA) in 1976. After completing L.L.B in 1978, he joined bar in the same year and practiced till 1993.
He appeared in Higher Judicial Services Examination in the year 1992 and secured Ist position in the State. He was appointed as Pr District & Sessions Judge, Kupwara on May 27, 1993 and remained posted as Pr. District & Sessions Judge, Anantnag from 1995 to 1998, Presiding Officer, Motor Accident Claims Tribunal, Srinagar from 1998-2000.
He was placed in the selection grade in the year 1998 and Super Time Scale in the year 2002. He was sworn in as Additional Judge of the High Court on 31.01.2005 and appointed permanent Judge of the High Court on 07.07.2007.
