KATHUA, Dec 25: Judge Jammu and Kashmir High Court, Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey today visited District Jail Kathua and Sub-Jail Hiranagar to inspect facilities being provided to the inmates there.
Director General of Prisons and Fire & Emergency Services, V.K.Singh, SSP Kathua Shridhar Patil and Secretary High Court Legal Servies Committee, Abdul Nasir accompanied Justice Magrey during the visit.
Justice Magrey, who is also Chairman High Court Legal Services Committee, Chairman Juvenile Justice Committee and Member IT Committee and National Legal Services Authority, interacted with the Jail inmates and heard their issues and concerns regarding the facilities they are being extended in these prisons.
He took stock of facilities being provided to the jail inmates like food, medicines, sports/entertainment and telephone service.
Justice Magrey passed on spot instructions for updating video conferencing facility so that the cases of the under-trials may be expedited without producing them before the trial courts. He also directed for providing legal aid services to the under-trials/convicts and stressed upon the Secretary DLSA and HCLSC for maintaining connectivity and coordination regarding the legal aid cases and legal aid aspirants.
The trial courts were directed to ensure timely dispatch of dockets to the Police Authorities as well as to the jail authorities so that the under-trials may be produced before the trial courts on the date of hearing.
Justice Magrey directed Health Department authorities to ensure the services of specialist doctors for visiting different jails to provide medical treatment to the inmates.
