Demands Chenab Water Lift Scheme be expedited

JAMMU, Dec 20: Jugal Kishore Sharma, Member Lok Sabha from Jammu -Poonch Parliamentary Constituency raised the issue of drinking water shortage in Jammu city and adjoining areas in Lok Sabha and urged to execute Chenab River Water Lift Master Plan to meet the need of the people in Jammu city.
Jugal Kishore Sharma said that drinking water shortage is a recurring problem in Jammu city and is the major problem for the new developing colonies like Janipur, Roopnagar, Shakti Nagar, Bhagwati Nagar, Bantalab, Sidhra, Jagti and areas adjoining the Jammu city. Although, Public Health Engineering Department (PHE) is working hard & is trying to ease the water shortage crisis by applying water tankers and giving supplement water supply to affected areas. Jammu is the part of Kandi belt and Sitlee Filtration Plant is now feeling shortage of water supply to cope up with large area.
Jugal Kishore said that J&K ERA has made a Master Plan for Rs 624.5 crore to lift the water from river Chenab. This Chenab Water Lift Supply Scheme will end the woes of whole Jammu City and provide sufficient potable water supply to whole Jammu and adjoining areas. He also said that the schemes executed under NWDRP ,AMRUT, NABARD, BADP, Rural Development and Capex Budget should be expedited and be completed in time bound so that people should met with the sufficient water supply. Jugal Kishore urged Minister for Water Resources to tune funds for early execution of work for Chenab river Water Lift Supply Scheme so that the developing and developed colonies should not feel the shortage of drinking water.
Uma Bharti, Union Minister for Drinking Water & Sanitation assured Member of Parliament that funds to tune of Rs 1056.54 crore have been made provision to complete 594 water supply schemes and their work will be completed within 18 months. Union Minister also ensure that Bulk Water Supply Scheme called Chenab River Water Lifting Scheme is put in consideration to get funded on priority from Japan International Cooperation Agency so that the work for Masterplan Water Supply Scheme for Jammu City would be executed soon.
