AKHNOOR, June 2: The elected representatives are responsible for the plight and miseries of the farmers of Khour and other areas. This was alleged by BJP State President Jugal Kishore Sharma while addressing a Kissan Sammelan at Sarmala Patyari which was organised by Akhnoor Distrcit unit of BJP Kissan Morcha led by Jagdish Bhagat.
Addressing the gathering of farmers and their families, drawn from different villages of Khour, Jugal Kishore Sharma said that it is indeed shocking to see that the people in these areas, who are totally dependent on their agriculture produce for survival, have been devoid of basic amenities. There is no proper communication and road connectivity, farmers do not get seeds and fertilizers on time, their villages lack adequate educational and health facilities, he added.
He said that these people have voted for Congress, but unfortunately their representatives in Assembly as well as Parliament have ignored these suffering farmers. He referred to a number of projects launched by the BJP-led NDA under the able stewardship of Atal Behari Vajpayee for the rural areas, especially focused on the development and welfare of farming community which were unfortunately shelved by the Congress after assuming power at Centre. He said that the Party is with these people and shall extend full support to their struggle for equal treatment.
Former State president Shamsher Singh Manhas said that there has been widespread resentment and anger among the farmers against the coalition Government. These people have voted in favour of those Congress leaders who after getting elected did not deem it their duty to mitigate their sufferings.
State General Secretary Bali Bhagat, BJP Cells State Incharge Sat Sharma (C.A.), Kisaan Morcha State president Karan Singh, Akhnoor Distt. president Sukhdev Singh, Party leader Jagdish Bhagat and others also addressed the gathering.
