JU VC scores rating in self evaluation, asks faculty to strive for excellence

JAMMU, Dec 11: Stressing upon the need for steering University of Jammu to pinnacles of excellence by putting best of efforts and maintaining pace with changing trends in the field of education, Vice Chancellor Prof R. D Sharma today said this is achievable given the best of talent available in the varsity.
“Let us resolve to surmount all the challenges and do our best to achieve the mission”, Prof Sharma said while interacting with permanent faculty and officers of the University during institutional self-evaluation.
On the initiative of the Vice Chancellor, the self evaluation of his ongoing tenure in the University involved the mandated activities like the institutional vision, accomplishments, goals, objectives, human resource management, Examination system, recruitment process, Choice Based Credit System, Capping of API Scores by UGC, digital library, filling of vacant positions and introduction of skill based courses, quality assurance management, financial management, infrastructural and learning process, curriculum planning and above all the learning process besides creating an environs for students and scholars to pursue academics in a congenial atmosphere.
Of the 156 participants, 144 took active part in the assessment through secret voting while remaining 12 did not participate in the voting process keeping in mind the transparent and institution friendly working of the Vice Chancellor. Of the 144 participants, 76 percent rated the VC between 4-5 on 5 point scale, 5 being the highest and 1 the lowest in the in the scale of five points.
While appreciating the observations of the participants, the Vice-Chancellor said the suggestions put forth would enable him in a bit way in further streamlining the functioning of the University. He called upon all the functionaries to work towards improving the quality and efficiency of the academic and administrative system of the University. He stressed upon the need for striving hard toward achieving academic excellence.
Responding to the various queries of the teachers and officers, the Vice Chancellor said that all the issues will be taken up by the University at appropriate levels.
