JU to offer full-fledged online degrees in English, Commerce

JAMMU, Mar 14: Jammu University has become the first University in J&K UT which has been selected by the University Grants Commission (UGC) as per provisions stipulated under regulation 3(B)(a) to start full-fledged online degree programmes in Masters in English and Commerce.
In response to the recent call from the UGC, the University had volunteered to offer programmes under online mode. The process of application involved online submission of extensive data pertaining to different aspects of the University. It was necessitated by UGC regulations that Universities applying for running of online courses should be NAAC A+ grade accredited university and figure in first 100 ranking of NIRF.
It is pertinent to mention here that University of Jammu is among ten high-performing State universities recognized as Category-I University by MHRD (now Department of Education, Govt of India) across India, selected for Rs 100 crore grant under Rashtriya Uchchaatar Shiksha Abhiyaan (RUSA) to promote excellence in teaching, research and innovation but was also ranked by National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2020 ranking by achieving the milestone of 52nd position among the universities in the country.
Prof Manoj Kumar Dhar, Vice-Chancellor JU appreciated the efforts of Director DDE, faculty and staff for taking this initiative. He also expressed that allowing the University to run courses in online mode by the UGC, speaks volumes about the incremental progress, strengthening of curriculum, outreach activities besides the University’s impetus on quality research and teaching. The Vice Chancellor directed for taking immediate steps in implementation of the full-fledged online degree programmes through the Directorate of Distance Education.
