JU slips by 23 notches in NIRF ranking; KU among top 100, SMVDU improves position

JAMMU, Apr 9: The Jammu University has failed to secure a place among top hundred institutions of higher learning across the country while its ranking among the Indian universities has also slipped by 23 notches in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2019.
According to the NIRF ranking – 2019, issued by the Union Ministry of Human Resources Development, the JU has slipped by 23 notches from the previous year ranking and stood at the 74th place among top 100 universities of the country.
Even as the Kashmir University has also registered a slight decline from previous year ranking, it stood at 53rd place, ahead of JU by 21 positions.
The JU has scored 40.43 points and secured 74th position this year while in previous years, its ranking was 51st, 63rd and 64th in the year 2018, 2017 and 2016, respectively.
On the other hand, the Kashmir University not only fared better than JU by scoring 44.19 points but also secured 79th ranking among all the institutions of higher learning across the country.
Earlier, KU ranking among all the universities in the country was 47th and 73rd in the year 2018 and 2017, respectively while it had failed to secure any place among the top universities in 2016.
Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra, has secured 85th rank among top 100 Engineering Institutes across the country. Last year, its ranking among the Engineering Institutes was 94th.
In other categories such as College, Management, Pharmacy, Law, Architecture and Medical Institutes, no higher educational institute from J&K figured in the list.
The NIRF was introduced by the HRD Ministry in 2016. The ranking is done on parameters that broadly cover `teaching, learning and `resources’, `research and professional practices’ and `collaborative performance’, `graduation outcomes’, `outreach and inclusivity’ and `perception’.
