JAMMU, Feb 2: Alleging un-necessary harassment by the Director Sports and Physical Education in Jammu University, students of Physical Education held a strong protest demonstration on the campus, here today.
The protesting students of MPEd and BPEd raised slogans against the Director and demanded his shifting from the department. They also staged a dharna in front of the JU main gate and blocked the road.
Highlighting their grievances,  Ankit Sharma, a student of Sports & Physical  Education,  alleged that students were  being harassed without any reason and Director Avtar Singh Jasrotia was running the department on his whims and fancies, instead of the statues mentioned in the vol-2, Chapter LXXIII para no.2.
He added that the examinations were  not being conducted as per direction  by the university calendar, which was  indirectly affecting  academic performance of the students.
Another student from the department,  namely  Shivanjali,  said that the Director was not accepting  medical certificate, issued by the Medical Officer and had been marking the students absent with the result that they were not eligible in appearing final examinations which, was  totally against the rules and  statues of the university.
Further, she added, nobody is allowed to participate in the national tournaments during the BPEd & MPEd courses. She urged to Vice Chancellor and Chancellor of the University  to intervene into the matter and  do justice with them.
The protest was joined by  Akram Ali, Maninder Singh, Deepak Charak, Shahid Bashir, Sonia Kumari, Narinder Singh, Sanjeev Sharma, Tarvinder Pal Singh, Javed Ahmed, Surbhi Anthal, Jyotika Sharma, Rajni , Muzzaffar Ahmed, Ravinder, Rashav Singh, Rahul Sabharwal, Jeevan Bhagat, Bhavna Sharma, Shabnam Malik, Shivali Dogra, Rimika Jamwal, Vandna Sharma, Meenakshi Bala, Akansha Sabharwal, Neha Malhotra, Puneet Singh, Gaurav Raina, Nitin Sangra, Rohit Verma, Abhilove Gupta and others.
