JU organizes workshop on ‘Research Publication’

JAMMU, Nov 21: The office of the Dean Research Studies, University of Jammu, in collaboration with Springer Nature, organized a workshop on the theme ‘Writing and Submitting Manuscripts for Research Publication’.
Prof Manoj Dhar, Vice Chancellor JU, who was chief guest on the occasion, highlighted the importance of publishing research in high quality journals. He stated that publications add value to research work and provide it with credibility. He urged the scholars to work hard and do credible work.
“It is very important to document and share the research work done and also publish the work in good quality reputed journals,” he said and cautioned the researchers to refrain from publishing their work in predatory Journals.
Speaking on the occasion, the Convenor of the workshop, Prof Rajni Dhingra, Dean Research Studies, mentioned that JU is committed towards promoting quality research by its scholars and faculty, and it is in this regard that today’s workshop was conducted. She mentioned that this workshop is first in the series of workshops being planned by the Office of the Dean Research Studies for improving the quality of research in JU.
The speaker for the workshop, Dr Akash Chakarborty, Associate Editor from Springer Nature and PhD in Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics from Institute Neel, CNRS, Grenoble, France and a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Regensburg in Germany, talked about the transitions and the needs of the publishing world, and how young researchers need to prepare for it. He mentioned that the workshop has been devised specifically as a resource for teaching non-native English-speaking researchers, particularly young scientists how to achieve publication success.
The key topics covered during this presentation included; Writing for international journals: Language, Style and Accuracy; Selecting an appropriate journal for the manuscript; Process of Peer-review, Plagiarism, Citations, and Open Access. He also talked about predatory journals and publishers and provided tips to the researchers of how to spot them.
Dr B K Bajaj, Associate Professor from the School of Biotechnology and Dr Sarika Manhas, Associate Professor from Department of Home Science, were the coordinators for the workshop. Kirti Chauhan conducted proceedings of the function.
Among others JU Registrar Prof R K Ganjoo, Prof Alka Sharma, Prof Yashpal Sharma, Prof Vinay Chauhan, Head/Director of various departments, faculty members and scholars were also present on the occasion.
