JU organizes workshop on ‘Community Participation & Inclusion’

JAMMU, Jan 20:  The Department of Students Welfare and Department of Lifelong Learning, University of Jammu,  in collaboration with ELFA International,  organized a one day training workshop on “Community Participation and Inclusion”, here today.
The workshop was meant to orient the students regarding issues faced by the community and persons who are differently-abled and also to promote their inclusion in the society.
Mehran Khan, CEO ELFA International, was the key resource person of the workshop. He is an international development practitioner, who has worked with different international organizations like Help Age, Aga Khan Foundation, Mercy Corps, Childline India and Handicap International on different roles ranging from compliance manager, project manager to executive director in different parts of the world and has trained teams of different organizations in India and abroad.
In her welcome address, Dr Kavita Suri, Director & Head, Department of Lifelong Learning, informed that DLL would collaborate with DSW in near future in a number of extension activities benefiting the students community.
Prof. Satnam Kour, Dean Students Welfare, JU, presented the inaugural address in which she stressed on the need of inclusion of specially-abled people in the society as the approach of their segregation creates a perilous rift.
Former Dean Academic Affairs Prof Poonam Dhawan, Dr Parmil Kumar, Assistant Dean, DSW, Dr Priyanka Sharma, Dr Vivek Sharma, Dr Pallavi Sachdeva, Dr Bharti Prabhakar, Dr Sandeep Singh, all DLL faculty members, DLL staff including Mulkraj Sharma, Dr Rewa Kajuria, Sonia Mahajan, Reeta Kaul, Rupali Abrol, DSW Cultural Officer Ifra Kak, Sumeet Sharma and Kulbhushan were present on the occasion.
Over 185 students from various departments participated.  Puneet Kour conducted the programme.
