JU organizes lecture on “Mapping situation of Dalits in Corona Times ‘

JAMMU, Aug 5: Centre for Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy (CSSEIP), University of Jammu e today organized a lecture on “Mapping the Situation of Dalits in Corona Times and State-Civil Society response” by Dr Archana Kaushik, Associate Professor, Department of Social Work, University of Delhi .
Prof Manoj K Dhar, Vice Chancellor, JU, was the chief guest in the session and inaugurated the Webinar Lecture Series. In his address, he stated that the difficult Covid-19 time has provided academia the chance to connect with eminent scholars and researchers world over through webinars to discuss, interact and disseminate knowledge. He further stated that in context of today’s lecture, the different dimensions of social exclusion of Dalit community would pave way to formulate policies for the inclusiveness of marginalized communities.
Dr Archana Kaushik deliberated on how Covid-19 has accentuated the vulnerabilities of the Dalits. She quoted studies to underscore the oppression and suppression of these marginalized communities during Covid-19 lockdown period. The greater responsibilities of the state/ civil society are not only to provide economic stability but also create an amicable environment devoid of atrocities, stress and depression, she stressed.
Prof Jasbir Singh highlighted the research profile of CSSEIP Research Centre. The lecture initiated discussion and a series of questions by the participants were appreciatively answered by the speaker. Dr Neharica Subhash presented the formal vote of thanks. More than 100 students, scholars, teachers, activists from J&K UT and other States attended the webinar.
