JAMMU, Jan 22: For the first time in Jammu and Kashmir, a one-day national seminar on ‘Empowering Women Through Entrepreneurship’ was organised by the Skill and Entrepreneurship Development Centre & Centre for Women’s Studies, University of Jammu in collaboration with the National Commission for Women, GoI, New Delhi.
Prof Manoj Dhar, Vice Chancellor, JU, in his inaugural address, said that such events focused on women entrepreneurs, motivate young women for taking entrepreneurial activities.
Meeta Rajivlochan, Member Secretary, National Commission for Women, addressed the young women and emphasized the participants in taking challenges and opportunities to start entrepreneurial initiatives.
Among successful entrepreneurs, Varuna Anand, founder The Splendour of Kashmir, Arti Mahajan founder of Shape n Smile-fitness studio, Geetika a writer and successful entrepreneur and Sakshi Beri from Caliberi were invited to share their journey of successful entrepreneurship.
It was followed by a panel discussion comprising of Dr Shamim Ahmad Wani, Special Secretary, Finance, Govt of J&K; Prof Vishva Raksha, Director CWS; Prof Sameer Gupta, convener UESDC and Divya Bhushan of JKEDI. The panel discussion was moderated by Poorvi Gupta, Senior Correspondent of `She The People.
Seminar was attended by more than 300 women participants. A survey was also conducted among the participants to decipher the obstacles and possible solutions for the women entrepreneurship. Event was organized by the concerted efforts of the members of team UESDC, Dr Garima, Dr Sikander, Dr Aubid and Dr Sunil and departmental coordinators including Prof Samridhi Arora, Dr Bindu, Dr Vijay, Dr Harleen, Dr Pallavi and Dr Padam Dev. Proceedings of the seminar were conducted by Kusum and rapporteur by Shreya.
