JU organises ‘Export awareness for First Generation Entrepreneurs’

JAMMU, Nov 24: Department of Commerce (SAP-DRS III) University of Jammu, in collaboration with the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry, today organized a lecture series on the theme, ‘Export awareness for First Generation Entrepreneurs’, under Niryat Bandhu Scheme.
Prof R D Sharma, JU Vice Chancellor, who was chief guest on the occasion, highlighted the significance of Indian economic reforms in early nineties in context of global economy initiating from five year plans. Citing the examples of business units like Amul and Reliance, Prof Sharma encouraged and inspired to be good entrepreneurs by thinking big and acting globally. Prof  Sharma also urged upon the youth to come forward and  setup their own business establishments as  there are lot many facilities, like soft loan facility, awareness programs and other such  facilities which help them in opening up of units.
In the first lecture, Amit Kumar, ITS, Deputy Director General of Foreign Trade, argued that no economy can grow without economic strengths. He discussed in detail the export and import procedures by explaining at length the various terms, institutions involved and schemes offered by the Government for encouraging exports. He made the participants aware about the Tariffs, Special Economic Zones, Export Oriented Units, EXIM Bank, WTO and Logistics.
The other lecture was delivered by Virender Sharma, Director, MSME who dwelled upon Merchant exporters, Micro, Small and Medium enterprises. He suggested that academia, industry and Government institutions should come forward and work jointly by organizing industrial visits, seminars, workshops, training etc for the creation of entrepreneurs and the growth of exports.
About 130 participants comprising faculty, DGFT staff, scholars and students attended the programme.
Earlier, the welcome address was given by  Ramesh Kumar Verma, ITS, Assistant Director General of Foreign Trade, GoI.  The vote of thanks was delivered by Prof Hardeep Chahal, HoD, Commerce and Dr Gurjeet Kaur  acted as stage coordinator.
Among others, who were present on the occasion, include Prof B C Sharma, Dean Placement, Jai Kumar Sharma, Special Secretary to VC,  Dr Jeevan Jyoti, Tarsem Lal, Sunil Kumar, Dr Bodh Raj Sharma, and Dr Harleen.
