JU Law School organises expert lecture on Article 370, Article 35A

JAMMU, Aug 27: The Literary Society of the Law School, University of Jammu, organized an expert lecture on Article 370 and Article 35A by Prof S K Sharma, former State Information Commissioner and constitutional expert.
In his lecture, Dr Sharma traced the historical genesis of both the articles and deliberated on the legal contours as well as issues of contemporary debate. About Article 370, he said that integration with the Centre has been possible through Article 370 and at present several provisions of the Indian constitution have been extended to the State of J&K via Presidential order either through consultation or concurrence of the State Government. He further apprised the students of the historicity of Article 35A referring to two notifications of 1927 and 1932 passed by Maharaja Hari Singh defining the State subjects and their rights which paved the way for Permanent Residence Clause in the Constitution of J&K and insertion of Article 35 A through Presidential order of 1954.
Earlier, welcome address was given by Dr Seema Rohmetra, Teacher Incharge of Literary Society while introductory address, referring to the background of the two articles and their relevance in an asymmetrical federal set up, was delivered by Prof Arvind Jasrotia, Director of the Law School.
The lecture was followed by interaction and queries by the students. The event was conducted by Siddhart Jamwal and Rahul Aggarwal, the student member of literary society.
