JAMMU, Dec 13: The Law School, University of Jammu, organized a two-day workshop on the art of mooting and drafting a winning memorial, aimed at enhancing students’ skills and career prospects.
The program featured distinguished legal professionals with expertise in arbitration and corporate affairs, including Advocate Nitin Parihar, High Court of J&K and Ladakh & Founder, Meridian Law Chambers; Advocate Pranav Jain; and Advocate Surya Zubin Bhardwaj.
The workshop saw enthusiastic participation of 60 students from various semesters, who were introduced to critical skills required for success in moot court competitions. On the first day, the sessions focused on essential aspects of mooting, including marshalling facts from the moot problem, identifying the relevant law and legal principles, researching authoritative sources, drafting pleadings, formulating legal points, and effectively responding to judges’ questions.
On the second day, Advocate Surya Zubin Bhardwaj emphasized the importance of soft skills in mooting. He stressed that a lawyer’s success hinges not only on the oretical knowledge but also on crucial soft skills such as attention to detail, persistence, teamwork, communication, creative problem-solving and resilience. These qualities, he noted, are essential in today’s competitive legal environment.
A distinctive feature of the workshop was its practical outcome-based approach to learning. The speakers shared moot problems with students, and regular follow-up sessions, scheduled every 15 days, were planned to monitor students’ progress, as explained by Dr Seema Rohmetra, Director of The Law School.
The event was conducted by Arushi Mengi and coordinated by Dr Monika Bhardwaj and Dr Pallavi Mathavan Puri.
