JU inaugurates 5-Day Science Camp at Leh

LEH, June 26: A five day INSPIRE Internship Science Camp organized by the Department of Geology, University of Jammu in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology (Government of India) was inagurated today by Rigzin Spalbar, Chief Executive Councilor, Leh  at the auditorium of New Millennium School, here today. The Inspire Science Camp is being organized specially for the students of class XI and XII from the Ladakh region by the University of Jammu from June 26 to 30, 2013
The chief guest of the inaugural function, Rigzin Spalbar welcomed the initiative of the Department of Science and Technology (Government of India) and University of Jammu for organizing such a camp especially for the Ladakh. He hoped that much more science camps would be organized for inspiring the young talented minds of the region.
Prof Mohan Paul Singh Ishar, Vice-Chancellor of the Jammu University in his presidential address encouraged the students to develop scientific temperament and take up the challenges of science. Prof Ishar also gave the inaugural lecture on the challenges of Pharmaceutical sciences where he took the students into whole gambit of drug designing and drug development.
Earlier in his welcome address, Prof Pankaj Srivastava, the coordinator of the programme, informed the gathering that about 225 students from 22 higher secondary schools of different part of the Leh and Kargil districts are taking part in this Science Camp. The INSPIRE programme is an innovative programme of the Government of India being managed by Department of Science and Technology. He also informed that many mentors from different field of sciences will be interacting with the participating students during the camp.
The vote of thanks was presented by Surjeet Shan. The others present were Prof R K Ganjoo, Head, Department of Geology, Mahendra Pratap, Under Secretary Department of Science and Technology, Verma, Principal Kendriya Vidyalaya, J K Sharma, Special Secretary to Vice Chancellor, Dr Jitender Khajuria, Joint Registrar, R S Dalpatia. The function was also attended by the science teachers of various schools.
