JAMMU, May 27: P G Department of Home Science (Human Development), University of Jammu, which is a pioneer in early child hood development research in collaboration with “CARE North” a Centre for counseling assessment research and empowerment, conducted an activity based one day workshop on ‘Early childhood development, orientation to life skills and teaching Aids’ for the budding enthusiastic of various prestigious schools of the State.
The workshop was inaugurated by Prof Desh Bandhu, Dean Academic Affairs, JU, who shared that such skill based workshops are essential for the State and the teaching faculty who are the actual shapers of the children of the State.
Prof Neeru Sharma, HOD Deptt of Home Science, JU, highlighted the objectives of the workshop. She deliberated on the need of sensitizing teachers and parents to the development in the early childhood years.
Dr Sarika Manhas (Asstt Prof Department of Home Science, JU) took the first technical session on ‘Developmental Milestones in the Early childhood years’. Dr Chand Trehan, a Psychologist & Counselor of J&K State with a vast experience in the psychological field and winner of numerous awards at State and national level and also Director of CARE North, said that the need of the hour in the State of J&K, is to create awareness amongst professionals, teachers, parents and public about the importance of life skills.
The third technical session was conducted by Dr Samridhi Arora (Associate Prof, Department of Home Science, JU), along with the Research Scholars. The session focused on providing the participants with skills of preparing teaching aids for usage among young children. She elaborated on the advantages of using aids to help make the curriculum interesting and enriched.
