JAMMU, Feb 8: On fifth day of their ongoing token strike, the Class-IV employees and contractual workers of Jammu University were today joined by Non-teaching employees of the varsity.
They held joint protest demonstration in front of the Administration block and highlighted the demands. Shouting slogans against the JU administration and holding placards, they also took out a rally on the campus.
Even as Registrar JU, Prof Naresh Padha sought to convince the employees that Vice-Chancellor Prof M P S Ishar has taken up the issue of regularization of contractual workers with the Financial Advisor for early disposal, the protesters refused to suspend their scheduled programme of stir.
On the direction of Vice-Chancellor, Prof Naresh Padha read out an appeal before the protesting employees stating that regularization of contractual workers, who have completed seven years in service, was in active consideration of the University. “After approval of the JU Council in 73rd meeting on October 18, last year, the Vice-Chancellor personally discussed the issue yesterday with Financial Advisor who assured early disposal of the matter for subsequent approval of the Chancellor,” Prof Naresh Padha told the protesting employees with an appeal to suspend their ongoing stir.
However, the Non-Gazetted Employees Union and Non-Teaching Employees Union refused to suspend the stir and announced to go ahead with their scheduled programme of complete strike from Monday onwards.
The NGEU announced to observe stir at all the JU campus also on Monday.
The protesting employees are demanding regularization of contractual workers who have completed seven years in service, due promotions to Class-IV employees etc.
