JU Class IV employees allege ill-treatment during poll duty

JAMMU, Dec 24: Jammu University Non-Gazetted Employees Union has alleged ill-treatment to the Class-IV employees during their deployment on election duty and appealed the Government to take action against the officers at the helm of affairs.
Addressing a hurriedly called press conference, here today, NGEU president Vijay Kumar strongly condemned the attitude of the officers deputed by the Election Department, who allegedly treated the Class-IV employees as bonded labourers.
“The officers on duty misbehaved with our employees and did not treat them well despite their satisfactory service provided during election,” he alleged.
The NGEU president also alleged that the university employees were not paid adequate remunerations for performing the election duty. A remuneration of Rs 150 in cash and cheque of Rs 300 was given to each employee against five-day duty,” he informed and registered NGEU resentment over the same.
B N Singh, president of SKUAST Non-Teaching Employees Union Jammu, also addressed the press conference and warned that the university employees would not associate themselves with the State authorities in performing such duties if their grievance was not addressed.
Suresh Sharma, president of JKPDTU, who was also present on the occasion, expressed solidarity with the university employees and appealed the Government to inquire into the allegations for strict action against the erring officers.
