JAMMU, June 5: The Business School, University of Jammu, organised an expert guest lecture on the theme “Research to Policy: How Evidence Shapes Government Decisions” with the objective of sensitising research scholars to the role of research evidence in Government policymaking and decision-making processes.
The keynote address was delivered by Dr Amita Fotedar, Policy Advisor at the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI), Government of New Zealand. An accomplished academician and researcher with extensive experience in public policy, sustainability, international development, and governance, Dr Fotedar shared valuable insights into the role of rigorous research and empirical evidence in shaping effective public policies and promoting sustainable development. Drawing from her experience in Government, academia, and international organisations, she highlighted the significance of evidence-based policymaking in addressing contemporary societal challenges.
Prof Alka Sharma, Dean Business Studies and Director, SIIEDC, also addressed the gathering and stressed the need for incorporating policy implications into research. She encouraged research scholars to develop white papers and submit them to Government agencies to contribute effectively to the policymaking process.
Earlier, Prof Amisha Gupta, Director, The Business School, emphasised the importance of bridging the gap between academic research and practical policymaking. She underscored that research should extend beyond scholarly publications and contribute meaningfully to informed decision-making and societal development.
The programme was coordinated by Dr Aubid Hussain Parrey, Assistant Professor, The Business School, who also presented the formal vote of thanks. Research scholars Heena Sharma, Ananya Gupta, and Diya Raina conducted proceedings of the event.
