JAMMU, Dec 17: On the call of United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), Jammu Province Bank Employees Federation (JPBEF) held a protest demonstration at Shalamar Chowk here today.
Addressing the gathering, Arun Kumar Gupta, general secretary, JPBEF informed that in banking sector, one million/10 lakh bank employees and officers of Public sector banks, private banks and foreign banks will observe one-day all India strike tomorrow, demanding immediate wage revision settlement and to lodge their protest against ongoing banking sector reforms.
He said that the last wage settlement in the banking sector expired on October 2012, but for the past one year, the discussions have been very tardy and hence UFBU gave the strike call.
On December 14, the Indian Banks Association (IBA) called the unions for talks and made their offer, which was found to be too low and hence not acceptable to the unions, he said, adding that UFBU decided to go ahead with the strike.
Chief Labour Commission of the Central Government BK Sanwaria held a conciliation meeting in Delhi today between IBA and UFBA. Since IBA did not agree to revise their offer, the meeting ended in a failure and hence the strike will be observed as scheduled.
Among others, who spoke were Vijay Zutshi, Ashwani Pardhan, RK Bamba, Manjit Singh, Hardev Singh, Sumitra Kher, TK Tikoo, Anil Gupta, VK Dutta, Rama Kant, Vinod Gupta, etc.
