Journalist’s house gutted, GPA demands compensation

GANDERBAL, Jan 11: Members of Ganderbal Press Association (GPA) led by President Aftab Ah Mir, Vice President Ghulam Nabi Raina, General Secretary Mohammed Saleem Wani, Advisory Body Member Sofi Ayaz and Firdous Ahmad visited the victim of a fire incident in Gund area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district here today.
A two storey residential house of Senior Journalist and Member of Ganderbal Press Association Sheikh Anees was reduced to ashes in a fire that occurred on Tuesday. While expressing their profound sympathy with the victim, they said, “The loss Sheikh family has endured is deeply distressing. The family has been rendered homeless due to this tragic incident. We want to reassure you that the GPA is unwavering solidarity with you during this period of sorrow.”
They have appealed to the Civil Society, religious committees and other NGOs to come forward and help the affected family to rebuild the new house. They also urged the Government to provide immediate relief and adequate compensation to the affected family.
