Jora inspects various sewerage projects

JAMMU, May 30: “The Government is committed for ensuring sustained development of the Jammu city and in this regard several developmental projects have been initiated by the Government”.
This was stated by Minister for Urban Development and Urban Local Bodies, Nawang Rigzin Jora while inspecting various sewerage and other projects of Urban Development Department at Jagti Township and various other places of Jammu.
The Minister was accompanied by Secretary Housing and Urban Development Department, Satish Nehru, Relief Commissioner J&K, R.K. Pandita, Commissioner JMC, Kiran Wattal besides various other officers of Urban Environment Engineering Department (UEED) also accompanied the Minister.
Various works/projects being executed by UEED and National Buildings Construction Corporation Limited (NBCC) which were inspected during the day long tour of Jammu city and its adjoining areas include Sewerage and Treatment Plant Jagti, laying of trunk main at Shahidi Chowk, Raghunath Bazar and Gujjar Nagar, besides various other projects were also inspected.
The Minister while inspecting the STP directed the officers of UEED to expedite the pace of work of the project for its early completion besides ensuring quality work on ground.
It is pertinent to mention here that the sewerage and treatment plant for migrant colony at Jagti is being executed by UEED at an estimated cost of Rs. 1261.75 lakh. Various components being constructed under the project include providing and laying of 1891 meter main sewer line, providing and laying of 7463 meter laterals and construction of 349 nos of manholes.
Later, the Minister also chaired a high level meeting with the officers at Civil Secretariat in which various works being executed by NBCC and UEED were discussed in detail. The Minister directed the officers of these departments to gear up and expedite the pace of work for early completion of various projects so that the people don’t face any inconvenience.
Progress of the projects which were reviewed by Mr Jora during the meeting include providing sewerage facilities to the left out portion of Talab Tillo under Phase-II of 10 MLD STP project having an estimated cost of Rs. 1439 lakh, comprehensive sewerage scheme for Division A of Greater Jammu, comprehensive sewerage scheme for left out areas phase-II of division ‘A’ greater Jammu besides progress of other sewerage projects was also reviewed by the Minister.
