Jora inspects Sewerage Treatment Plant at Bhagwati Nagar

JAMMU, Jan 23: To get on the spot feedback about the progress on various under construction and functional Sewerage Treatment Plants in Jammu city, the Minister for Urban Development and Urban Local Bodies, Nawang Rigzin Jora today paid surprise visit to Sewerage Scheme, Talab Tillo Sector I, Phase-II, ‘Div.’A’., Bhagwati Nagar and inspected the functioning of various plants and pumping stations.
The Minister was accompanied by Commissioner-Secretary, Urban Development and Housing Department, Jeet Lal Gupta, Chief Engineer, UEED, R.C Gupta, Superintendent Engineer, Prem and other senior officers of the concerned agencies.
On the occasion, the Chief Engineer gave a brief account of the functions of the sewerage plant. The Minister took a round and inspected various plants including 45 MLD Sewerage Pumping Station, 2No 5MLD UASB Reactor, sludge drying beds and inspected the ongoing work. The Minister stressed upon the concerned engineers to complete all the non functional plants within stipulated time frame and added that a better sewerage system will help to overcome the water logging problems in the city.
The Minister was informed that Rs.34.77 crore have been spent on Talab Tillo Sewerage Scheme, Sector Ist and had been commissioned in March 2012 with 5704 house connections. He was further informed that another 10 MLD STP Project for left out portion of Talab Tillo, covering Jain Colony, Vishal Nagar, Gole Panjpeer, Hari Om Nagar, Camp Main Road of Bhagwati Nagar is coming up at a cost of Rs.13.81 crore and Rs.12.5 lakh have been expended on the project till March 2012. He was also told that works amounting to Rs.17.8 crore, including trunk sewer and laterals house connections have been allotted to the concerned agencies.
Mr. Jora was also briefed about the comprehensive sewerage scheme for left our areas of Phase-II, Division ‘A’ Greater Jammu. The UASB coming up at an estimated cost of Rs 20.32 crore will cover Krishna Nagar, Resham Ghar, New Plot and some parts of Sarwal Colony, Rajinder Nagar, Lajpat Nagar and parts of Bakshi Nagar area around Medical College.
The Minister was further told about progress on sewerage scheme costing Rs.129.24 crore to cover B.C Road to river Tawi including Karan Nagar, Radio Station Colony, Ustad Mohalla, Pakki Dhaki, Dogra Hall Colony, Parade Ground, Secretariat, Kanak Mandi, Gujjar Nagar, Bus Stand, Jewel Chowk and Qasim Nagar etc.
The Minister was also briefed about under construction 30 MLD STP coming up at a cost of Rs.145.50 crore which will cover area from sector 3 to 6 of Phase-II Div.’A’, including Baskhi Nagar, Gurah, Shakti Nagar, Shiv Nagar, Tope Sher Khania, Subash Nagar, Rajpura, Patoli, Sarwal, New Plot, Janipur and Paloura. The project is being executed by ERA and funded by Asian Development Bank.
The Minister stressed upon the concerned engineers to expedite the work and make the STP functional as early as possible ,so that the common people of the city may get rid of the sewerage problem.
