JAMMU, Jan 16: A delegation from Leh comprising Minister for Urban Development, Nawang Rigjin Jora, CEC Rigzin Spalbar, MLA Tsetan Namgyal and MLC Nurboo Gayalson today called on Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah and sought financial assistance of Rs 15 crore for making arrangements for the Holy Kalachakara initiation being held between July 3 to July 14 at Jevastal Choglamsar, Leh.
The delegation apprised the Chief Minister that spiritual leader Dalai Lama will honour Ladakh once again by performing the Holy Kalachakara initiation and around 1.5 lakh devotees from across the world will visit Leh to take part in the ceremony.
They said that hosting of ceremony of this proportion poses challenges and local people and several organizations are doing their best to support the Hill Council and the district administration in fulfilling the responsibilities.
“However, the task of making arrangements in terms of logistics and creating infrastructures for such a large number of guests is daunting”, they said, adding “certain types of facilities and amenities like creating an ambient environment suited to the ceremony involving development of infrastructure like parking places, camping sites, expanding of public places are becoming unavoidable”.
“Since our resources availability don’t provide such flexibility, the State Government must provide special one-off grant of Rs 15 crore to help in meeting the emergent needs”, the delegation told the Chief Minister.
