JAMMU, Apr 1: Gangyal police foiled a murder plot with the arrest of an associate of Jonney Gang along with Chinese pistol and live rounds.
As per police sources, based on reliable information, a team from Gangyal police station laid a naka at Kunjwani and asked a pedestrian to stop for checking as he was trying to hide himself from the cops.
On seeing police cops, the pedestrian tried to escape, but the cops nabbed him after a brief chase.
During checking, police recovered a Chinese pistol and three live rounds from the possession of the pedestrian and arrested him.
The accused has been identified as Sanjeev Kumar alias Rippu, son of Mulkh Raj, a resident of Bari Brahmana, District Samba.
During preliminary investigation it came to fore that the accused was on his way to eliminate his associate, but Gangyal police foiled his bid by arresting him.
The accused is an active member of Jonney gang headed by Vipan Gupta alias Jonney, son of Satpal Gupta of Bari Brahmana, who is presently booked under PSA and lodged in Kot Bhalwal Jail. The gang is involved in various heinous crimes including attempt to murder and extortion cases.
Sanjeev Kumar was earlier booked under stringent Public Safety Act (PSA) and his PSA was revoked after 9 months.
A case under FIR Number 26/17 under Section 3/25 Arms Act has been registered against Sanjeev Kumar at police station Gangyal and further investigation into the case is going on.
Police team led by SDPO South Mohammad Rafiq Manhas and assisted by SHO Gangyal Inspector Aejaz Wani made the arrest and foiled the murder plot under the supervision of SP South Sandeep Choudhary.
It is pertinent to mention here that few days back, Gangyal police arrested a notorious criminal Paramjeet Singh alias Murga along with one unlicensed 12 bore gun and was later booked under PSA.
