There can be a slip between the cup and the lip. That is what has happened with some of the students of the State who have been selected by the AICTE for admission to various recognized colleges and institutions outside the state for both Arts and Science faculties. Though they were allotted colleges for admission by the AICTE under Prime Minister’s Special Scholarships Scheme, yet for unknown reasons the allotted colleges refused them admission and left them in lurch. They are shuttling between the AICTE and the University Grants Commission unable to elicit any convincing reply from any quarter. This shows that the selection and the promise of admission and award of scholarship from PM’s Scheme all has been a big joke and the students have been left in lurch. There smells rat in the entire affair. Why was the interview of aspiring students held in Srinagar and not in Jammu also when thousands of Jammu students were among applicants? Why did not the AICTE allot student candidates to such known colleges and institutions as had vacancies? Were nepotism and favoritism at work when allotment of colleges was made? Why has not the AICTE or the University Grants Commission been reacting to the protests of the students? Who will mitigate their grievance? There are many more questions. It will be in fitness of things to institute a court of inquiry into the entire episode and bring out the mischief mongers for booking them under the law.
