Sir,
As per WHO definition health is the complete physical, mental and social wellbeing and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. Now if we go by this message it is clear that complete physical wellbeing is one of the criteria for being healthy, but unfortunately the Central as well as the State Government seem to have missed the point. There is a little balance that can be seen in health sector. In boasting of mother, child healthcare and celebrating the complete eradication of polio from our country, the Government at every level seems to have forgotten about oral health. And it is because of this reason that we don’t know of any recruitment of dentists through JKPSC since 2008.
The Central Government is a bit more clever in this regard. They are formulating a policy each day for AYUSH doctors but they don’t seem to need dentists for an average person. And why would they want to because they themselves can afford to see a dentist ,may be in London also.Healthcare professionals are begin absorbed on contractual basis to look after mother and child health. We all know how delicate it is to take care of mother and child, but doesn’t that include their oral health also. The policy makers have already been warned by a group of dentists earlier in Jammu and if they do not look into this matter soon and provide jobs to dental professionals, then yes we are ready to take it to the streets and risk whatever we can.
Yours etc……
