JAMMU, Nov 8: Principal of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Leh was today attached with the Regional Headquarters of JNV Samiti at Chandigarh after large number of students and female staff protested against alleged harassment at the hands of head of the institution.
Official sources said that large number of students and female staff of the JNV gheraoed the residential quarter of Principal JNV S K Thakur late last night and started pelting stones in protest against his unwarranted attitude towards them.
Keeping in view the anger of the students and staff, Principal contacted the district administration and sought immediate help to control the situation. Within shortest possible time, some officers along with police reached the JNV complex and safely shifted the Principal to Circuit House. The administration even pacified the agitators on the promise that their grievances would be projected before the concerned authorities.
They alleged that Principal’s attitude towards the students and female staff of the JNV was unwarranted and finding it difficult to tolerate the harassment any more they decided to ‘teach him a lesson’.
On getting information about the incident, Principal was attached to the office of Regional Headquarters of JNV Samiti at Chandigarh pending enquiry against him. Deputy Commissioner Leh, who is Chairman of JNV Leh, has been directed to conduct enquiry and submit the report within shortest possible time.
