JMC’s 24 Councillors demand General House Meeting soon

JAMMU, Sept 14: After the Mayor adjourned the general house meeting of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) on September 6 as Councillors had made serious allegations of corruption, 24 Councillors including those from Congress party and Independents here today moved a signed requisition seeking convening of special meeting of the general house without any delay.
The requisition stated that the Mayor did not responded to the corruption charges and was also duty bound to announce the next date of the meeting in the house itself but he left the meeting in a huff which is contrary to law.
A handout stated that the Councillors referred the provisions of Section 53(3) of the MC Act which says, “While adjourning the meeting the subsequent date should be announced. Similarly Sub Cl. (7) of the Sec. 59 of the Act clearly states, in case of grave disorder arising in a meeting the Mayor or the person presiding may, if he thinks it necessary to do so, adjourn the meeting to a date or time specified by him.”
The signatories to the requisition were Ch. Dwarka Nath, Chief Whip Congress; Gourav Chopra, Whip; Banu Mahajan, Whip; Sobat Ali, Pritam Singh, Sham Lal, Amit Gupta, Kamal Singh Jamwal, Ashok Singh, Ghar Singh, Anu Bali, Ritu Choudhary, Ch Mohiudin, Vijay Choudhary, Rajni Bala, Rajinder Singh Jamwal, Rashpal Bhardwaj, Sandiya Gupta, Yudhvir Singh, Jagdish Kumar, Inder Singh Soodan, Charanjeet Kour, Rama and Sonika Sharma.
