JAMMU, May 31: Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) today seized 22 packets of milk powder each weighing 1 kilogram from Pargal Cheese Corner, Talab Tillo.
Addressing a press conference, Kiran Wattal, Commissioner, JMC said that a team of Veterinary section under the supervision of Dr Zafar Iqbal, Municipal Veterinary Officer, JMC, inspected various milk and milk product shops at Jewel, Canal Road and Talab Tillo areas.
During the inspection, the team inspected the premises of M/s Pargal Cheese Corner at Talab Tillo and found an almirah in the shop, he added.
He stated that the Shopkeeper was asked to open the almirah, but he replied that the keys of almirah were with the owner of the shop.
“The owner was contacted telephonically and was asked for keys of almirah but he replied that the almirah can only be opened after two days as he was out of station”, he added.
Suspecting some foul play, the team insisted for opening of almirah or the same shall be opened in presence of police and then the shopkeeper opened the almirah, he stated.
The almirah contained 22 packets of milk powder each weighing 1 kilograms, he said, adding that the packets were seized and handed over to the Health Officer, who further directed the concerned Food Safety Officer to lift the sample and sent to Food Analyst Jammu to ascertain its standard of purity.
