JAMMU, May 30: Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) here today lifted 20 stray cattle during a surprise drive.
These cattle were removed from Roop Nagar, Janipur, New Plots, Amphalla, Bakshi Nagar, Gandhi Nagar, Panama Chowk, Narwal, Channi and other areas and were finally impounded at JMC Cattle Pound, Dogra Hall.
Giving detail about the drive, Municipal Veterinary Officer, Dr. Zaffar Iqbal said majority of the dairy owners after milking let their animals roam freely on roads and streets leading to frequent traffic jams and accidents.
He also said that Veterinary wing of JMC has also been shifting the sick and injured stray animals round the clock to Municipal Animal Care Centre in Roop Nagar for treatment.
Dr. Iqbal appealed to all the dairy owners to maintain hygienic conditions in and around the dairy units by proper disposal of cow-dung and not letting loose the dairy animals on roads and streets.
