JAMMU, Mar 30: Jammu Municipal Corporation flats in Gandhi Nagar area were vacated today and sealed after eviction of unauthorized occupants.
The JMC team, accompanied by Police force and Magistrate, evicted the unauthorized occupants from these flats as prior notices were already served to them following court direction in this regard.
There are total nine residential flats of JMC in Gandhi Nagar area, most posh locality of Jammu city. Most of these residential flats were illegally occupied by retired employees of JMC and a few others by politically connected persons.
The J&K High Court had already ordered for eviction of these JMC flats from the illegal occupants, who included retired Commissioner and Joint Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation.
A team of JMC officials, led by Secretary Atul Gupta and Assistant Commissioner Revenue Manisha Sharma, reached the spot this morning and evicted the illegal occupants. While some flats were found locked, a few other occupants were still staying there.
With the help of Police, JMC officials removed the goods of illegal occupants kept there and broke open the locks in presence of a Magistrate. After removing the goods, JMC sealed all the evicted flats.
The illegal occupants did not resist the JMC action even as they complained against the sudden eviction claiming that they had already assured the authorities to vacate the flats within days.
