JAMMU, Oct 25: The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress, secretary and former chairman of the Health and Sanitation Committee of Jammu Municipal Corporation, Satish Sharma has expressed his concern over the increasing dengue cases in Jammu city and surrounding areas and alleged that JMC failed to contain the outbreak.
While addressing a press conference here today, former JMC Chairman said that the increasing dengue cases in Jammu city is only and only due to the wrong functioning of Municipal Corporation of Jammu. He alleged that even before the BJP-ruled Municipal Corporation, the Mayor/Deputy Mayor did not do any work and the one who has now become the new Mayor and Deputy Mayor, instead of just holding photo sessions through media , it would be better if they work on the ground.
The Cong leader said that every day 250 to 300 dengue cases are coming in Jammu hospitals and till now 6 people have lost their lives due to dengue in Jammu. So far, the corporation has not been able to get the fogging done completely in all the wards. Satish said that dengue mosquitoes start coming after September as soon as the rains end. If anti-larva spray is done in all the wards and slum areas in September before October, then dengue mosquitoes can be prevented from breeding on a large scale. After that, if fogging is done in all the wards in the beginning, then dengue can be stopped to a great extent.
Satish further said during his tenure chairman of Health and Sanitation Committee, before and after rains, full preparations were made to deal with infections like dengue, malaria etc, but nowadays there is only politics of chair and show. The public has been left to suffer. He said as soon as the cold intensifies, dengue mosquitoes will disappear on their own, but till then continuous fogging should be done in all the wards so that the public can get relief.
Baldev Singh Wazir, president of Congress Minority Department of Jammu District, and Sumanpreet senior vice president of Gandhi Nagar Congress Unit were also present on this occasion.
