JAMMU, Oct 7: Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) today destroyed huge quantity of adulterated milk and recovered Rs 39,000 from the defaulters.
Commissioner, JMC along with Health Officer, Municipal Veterinary Officer and Food Safety Officers visited Panjtirthi, Jain Bazar, Peer Mitha, Kanak Mandi, City Chowk and Shalamar area to inspect the quality of milk being sold in the city.
During the visit, JMC destroyed huge quantity of adulterated milk and compounding fee of Rs 20,000 was collected from milk vendors and Rs 19,000 from other defaulters.
Later, Kiran Wattal visited Raghunath Bazar area and took assessment of the municipal services. He was welcomed by the President Raghunath Bazar Traders Association, Baldev Khullar who accompanied him during visit to Mohalla Partap Ghar, Janta Market and other nearby market premises.
President apprised the Commissioner about the beatification cum heritage project being undertaken by the Tourism Department and solicited the assistance of JMC in the project. Face lifting of pavements, street lights, dust bins etc. was demanded to give historic look to the one of the oldest Bazar of the State.
Commissioner assured that necessary steps will be taken immediately to ensure that necessary and timely support of the corporation is made available in the project.
The officers present during the tour were Joint Commissioner (ADM), Joint Commissioner (W), Secretary, JMC, Executive Engineers, Health Officer, Chief Transport Officer, Chief Enforcement Officer and others.
The team also visited Lower Gumat area and Kanji House and took stock of the encroachments, sanitation, street light and other issues. Advisory was issued to the businessmen/traders not to violate shop line for allowing smooth flow of traffic.
Meanwhile, Health Officer, JMC Dr Vinod Sharma along with a team of Food Safety Officers, conducted an extensive tour in the areas like Panjtirthi, Kucha Sabzi Mandi, Raghunath Mandir Chowk, etc.
The team inspected various food establishments and 2 samples of milk, one of khoya and one sweetmeat Rasgulla. The samples were sent to Food Analyst for analysis.
