JAMMU, Aug 31: A special drive against the menace of food adulteration especially Momos (a Chinese concept) was conducted today in the areas of Exchange Road , Kachi Chawani, Panjtirthi, Bantalab, New Plot etc of Jammu city.
A team of food safety officers lead by Health Officer JMC. Dr. Mohd. Saleem Khan under the directions of Commissioner, JMC and on the request of general public especially parents of students conducted raids and inspected a number of shops manufacturing/selling momos under most unhygienic conditions and the material used for preparation of momos was found to be of sub- standard quality.
Approximately 2 quintals of prepared momos and 50 kg of material used for preparing momos was seized from the momos shops and destroyed as it was found unfit for human consumption.
The food business operators especially dealing with manufacturing/selling of momos /other junk food have been directed to stop this practice henceforth in the public interest. Any body found not complying to the directions will be dealt with strictly under Food Safety Act.
