JAMMU, Feb 11: Continuing its drive against the illegal encroachments in the city, the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has today retrieved eight kanals of land adjacent to UCO Bank on Satwari- Digiana road.
The drive was launched by Enforcement Wing of JMC under the directives of JMC Commissioner Kiran Wattal.
Mr Wattal said the land has a market value of Rs 12 crore.
Five Kanals and ten marlas of land was also retrieved by JMC at Janipur Chowk where a Talab existed earlier and which was encroached by the mafia. The JMC has constructed a shed for the resting place of passengers there.
Besides Khokas from JMC Vatika at entry point to Raghunath Bazar near Hari market was also removed by JMC in its drive today on the directives of Mr Wattal.
Meanwhile, the enforcement staff under major anti-encroachment drive led by Kapil Sharma, Joint Commissioner (Adm.) along with the Chief Enforcement Officer, Satish Khajuria removed kiosks and encroachment from the public lanes and roads from Indira Chowk, Akhnoor Road and Gangyal areas and took the following actions.
The team demolished two permanent structures raised upon footpath at Indira Chowk, in the City. The structures were erected about 5-6 years back illegally and were hindrance to pedestrians.
It demolished the gate and walls erected by encroaching upon lane at Gangyal, Jammu and demolished the five temporary structures erected upon pavements at Akhnoor Road.
Besides this, the team seized five truck loads of material which include sizable no of Reharies operating without license and other goods / articles kept upon footpaths /pavements hampering the free flow of vehicular traffic and causing hindrance to the pedestrians also. The drive has been conducted with the active co-operation of police from the Police Stations Bus Stand, Domana, Satwari and from District Police Lines Jammu.
The JMC appealed to the shopkeepers to refrain from making encroachments and keep their goods within their shops / establishments to avoid seizure of these goods and penalty for such defaults and also asks the Rehary owners and rehari pullers to keep the reharies mobile as the stationary Reharies are a source of traffic jams much to the inconvenience of the general public.
