JAMMU, Nov 3: A joint anti-encroachment drive was conducted today by Jammu Municipal Corporation as well as Traffic and executive police under the supervision of Joint Commissioner (A), JMC, Ramesh Sharma and Assistant Commissioner (Revenue), JMC, Vinakshi Koul.
During the drive, Chief Enforcement Officer of JMC, Rajesh Gupta, Revenue officers—Parmod Kumar, Ashwani Sudan, Parveen Gupta and Sunil Gupta, Enforcement staff of JMC and police personnel from concerned police station also accompanied the drive.
The drive was conducted in compliance of the High Court directions as well regarding removal of unauthorized rehries or the encroachments on the roads in the areas from City Chowk to Central Basic High School, Purani Mandi Jammu.
During the drive, the JMC team removed encroachments and cleared the footpaths and pavements. The team seized 2 illegal rehries plying without licenses from these areas, besides 4 trucks of material displayed by the shopkeepers/ pheriwalas in front of their shops and footpaths causing traffic congestion and free flow of pedestrians.
The Joint Commissioner (A) appealed to the shopkeepers to keep their goods within their establishments to avoid penal action against them and directed the street vendors/rehriwalas to ply their rehries only in the rehri zones established by the JMC.
