JAMMU, Feb 13: A delegation of the Jammu and Kashmir Teachers Joint Action Committee (JKTJAC), zone Paddar, District Kishtwar, led by president Kuldeep Raj, met Sakeena Itoo, Minister for Higher Education, School Education, Health and Medical Education and Social Welfare, to discuss pressing issues in the education sector.
During the meeting, the delegation raised several concerns, including the shortage of teachers in high schools, particularly those upgraded under the RMSA scheme. They emphasized the need for Cluster Resource Persons to provide academic and administrative support.
The delegation also highlighted the meagre honorarium of Rs 1000 per month for cook-cum-helpers, who prepare mid-day meals for students. They called for an increase in this amount, as the helpers work hard throughout the month for only nine months of the year.
Other issues raised included the introduction of a uniform academic calendar for schools in the Kashmir division and Winter Zone of Jammu division, curriculum modification for primary and elementary classes, timely payment of honorarium to AAYAs, and the processing of pending ReT teachers’ files.
The delegation also called for a fair transfer policy and an Annual Transfer Drive to address transfer-related grievances.
The Minister assured the delegation of a timely response to their demands and agreed to work on their resolution.
Earlier, the delegation had also met with the Commissioner Secretary of the department to brief the latter about their concerns.
