JAMMU, Apr 8: With an aim to mitigate the deadly Coronavirus pandemic, Jammu and Kashmir State Legal Services Authority (JKSLSA) through its innovative and empathetic measures are offering services at doorsteps to provide much needed relief to public.
In this regard, SLSA initiated series of awareness programmes, wherein Retainer Lawyers and PLVs were sensitized about the pandemic and the precautions required to be taken to avoid its infection and spread.
Since the onset of the pandemic crises, JK SLSA has organised 354 camps in the UT of J&K educating 38058 people, whereas, 60 camps were organised in UT of Ladakh benefiting about 800 people.
Legal Services Institutions intensified with more emphasis on campaigning through social media followed by prompt action by providing immediate service to the needy and under-privileged. The programmes organized by Legal Services Institutions pertained to publicity through print and electronic media about Coronavirus and measures to contain it by individual and collective precautions issued by the Government from time to time.
The messages and videos released by the Government and World Health Organisation were uploaded in the Whatsapp groups for the information of Retainer Lawyers and PLVs who in turn circulated those whatsapp messages and videos amongst general public.
Moreover, the Legal Services Institutions coordinated with the Municipal Corporations and Local Bodies in sanitizing the areas and distributed sanitization kits and masks to masses. The PLVs are also working to coordinate between the people in need and the nodal officers appointed by the government for redressing their grievances.
The JKSLSA machinery has the strength of one Secretary each in twenty districts who monitors the functioning of Para Legal Volunteers (PLV) assisting them to cater to the needs of masses. The total strength of PLV in Jammu and Kashmir is 630, who have been working round the clock to provide service at the door step to people as far as the basic amenities, food packets and medicines.
Realizing the need of the hour which is not only to sensitize the infected but also to send them for isolation and quarantine, the PLVs are keeping a close vigil at their respective designated villages to foresee any such case particularly the arrival of any outsider or foreigner for further information to the administration.
