J&K’s 10 MCs have annual intake of 1147 seats, 590 for FMGs: NMC

642 in Jammu, 505 seats available in Kashmir Division

Srinagar, Feb 28: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a list of recognized and approved medical colleges in J&K indicating the annual intake as well as the available seats for Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs).
As per the details, which have been shared by the NMC, J&K has an annual intake of 1147 seats in 10 medical colleges which are either recognized or have been approved by the NMC. At the same time, the medical colleges in J&K have got 590 seats available for the FMGs to get their compulsory Medical Rotating Internship done.
Concerning the medical college-wise details on the annual intake as well as the available seats for the FMGs, the NMC informed, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Vijaypur-which falls in the category of recognized medical colleges in J&K-has got the annual intake of 62, while as 5 seats have been kept available for FMGs.
Government Medical College (GMC), Srinagar-which began its operations in 1959-as per the details shared by the NMC, has an annual intake capacity of 180 seats while 14 seats have been kept available for Medical Rotating Internship of FMGs. GMC, Jammu-which began its operations in 1972-also has an annual intake capacity of 180 seats while 14 seats have been kept available for FMGs.
Further, SKIMS, Soura-which is a deemed University started in 1988-the NMC informed has got an annual capacity of 125 while 9 seats remain available for FMGs. Similarly, Acharya Shri Chander College of Medical Sciences, Jammu, it has been given out, has got an annual capacity of 100 apart from having 8 seats available for FMGs.
In the category of approved medical colleges in J&K, which mostly has the newly established medical colleges in the Union Territory, the NCM informed that Government Medical College, Rajouri, which is affiliated with Jammu University and began its operations in 2019 has got the annual capacity of 100 as well as 108 seats which have been kept available for the FMGs.
Similarly, the Government Medical College, Kathua has got an annual capacity of 100 as well as 108 seats which have been kept available for the FMGs including Government Medical College, Baramulla, Anantnag and Doda which has got similar capacity concerning the annual intake as well as the available seats for FMGs.
As per details, the medical colleges in the Jammu division have an annual capacity of 642 seats while the number of available seats for FMGs is 351. At the same time, the medical colleges in Kashmir have an annual capacity of 505 seats and the number of available seats for FMGs is 239.
The NCM has also issued similar details about medical colleges functional across the country while noting that it has received several representations seeking details on the colleges that are allowed to conduct the compulsory Medical Rotating Internship.
