Srinagar, Apr 9: The J&K Road Transport Corporation (JKRTC) Workers Union today staged a protest against the non-fulfilment of their long-pending demands while warning of a UT-wide strike in case the Government fails to address their issues.
Several members of the JKRTC Workers Union appeared in the Press Enclave Srinagar and were seen raising slogans in favour of their demands, urging the administration to take note of the same.
Spokesman of the Union, Khalid Ahmad Rather said that the issues confronting JKRTC and its employees, particularly the issue of non-disbursement of monthly salary have been projected before Managing Director JKRTC and the Government of UT of J&K by the Workers Union.
He said that the Chairman JKRTC, Chief Secretary and Commissioner Secretary Transport were kind enough to acknowledge the issues and assured timely resolution of the pending issues-particularly the issue of salary.
“But the failure on the part of Management of JKRTC to pursue the issues despite having enough time has multiplied sufferings of employees and also adversely affected the smooth functioning of Corporation,” the protesting workers said.
They said that nothing withstanding the fact that the employees are contributing to mitigating the Govt obligations to provide transport facilities to the general masses with devotion and dedication.
“But on contrary, the employees of the corporation are without salary for the last four months. Besides the irony is that the corporation is presently headless,” they said.
They said that the reason stated gives enough reason to the employees to restart the struggle for the realization of their just and reasonable demands.
“Two-hour peaceful protest will be held on April 11, 2022 (Monday) at Jammu,” the workers said.
While outlining their issues, the workers said that their demands which are still lying pending include release of pending four months’ salary and timely disbursement of future salary, regularization of consolidated employees who have completed 8 years of service, the release of pending 57% DA, confirmation orders of already completed DPC held in the year 2021, formal orders for fixation of the scale of HSD/Fuel as per survey report furnished by the designated committee in respect of BS6 trucks along with other issues.
“In case the Govt continues to sleep over the issues, the employees of corporation will intensify the protest across the UT of J&K and Ladakh, which includes complete strike and the consequences thereof, shall be borne by the management of JKRTC,” the workers said.
