JAMMU, July 27: J&K Poultry Association (JKPA) has demanded complete ban on contract farming in poultry sector.
Addressing a press conference, Ravinder Singh Jamwal, president, J&K Poultry Association said that the Government has suspended the contract farming in poultry sector, but it should be banned.
He also demanded a comprehensive policy for the poor and needy poultry farmers of J&K, so that they can also compete with other states.
Jamwal said that a delegation of the association met Sham Lal Sharma, Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control and apprised him about the problems being faced by the poultry farms owners in J&K. The Minister assured the delegation that their demands will be redressed in the time to come, he added.
He further stated that the Minister for Animal and Sheep Husbandry (independent charge) Nazir Ahmed Khan Gurezi has suspended the contract farming in the State, but despite that some companies are still doing contract farming in gross violation of Government norms.
He urged the Gurezi to totally ban the contract faming and take action against those, whosoever will be found guilty.
During the press conference, poultry farmers, feed traders, medicine traders, chick and chicken traders, maize traders, feed manufacturers and hatchery owners were also present.
