JAMMU, May 21: JKNPP today held a one- day sit-in outside the office of J&K State Human Rights Commission to lodge protest against alleged socio-political discrimination meted out to Jammu region.
The protest dharna was led by Harshdev Singh, Chairman NPP; Balwant Singh Mankotia, president NPP and Yashpal Kundal, president Young Panthers.
Speaking on the occasion, Harshdev Singh termed the socio-political bias perpetuated against the Jammu region as a synonym of human rights violation of the Dogra-Pahari people. “The people of Jammu region who had pinned high hopes from BJP are feeling extremely disappointed over the highly timid approach of the saffron party towards the issues of Jammu region as well as the concerns of unemployed youth,” he said.
Mr Singh added that while the fight for AIIMS and artificial Lake project over the river Tawi had to continue, there were several issues on which the BJP had compromised at the cost of its kernel dogma and ideology.
Balwant Singh Mankotia alleged that the BJP leaders had made a mockery of themselves by taking different stands at different locations to suit different situations. Cautioning the BJP Ministers and Legislators to refrain from surrendering on the issue of AIIMS by holding assurances of another AIIMS like institute for Jammu, Mr Singh said that any such pusillanimity on its part would face stiff resistance from the people of Jammu region. He warned to launch a full scale agitation against the coalition Government in case the AIIMS project was transferred to Kashmir.
Yash Paul Kundal said that the Common Minimum Programme of the coalition Government had nothing to offer to the people of Jammu region.
